An art exhibition titled ‘Odyssey 2’ featuring an impressive array of artwork created by the members of the ‘2020 Group’ will be on display at the ‘Karaliya’ Art Gallery, Kandy, from August 9 – 11, from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm. As a tribute, the ‘2020 Group’ has dedicated the ‘Odyssey 2’ exhibition to legendary artist – late, Gunasiri Kolambage, founding member of the ‘2020 Group’. 

The ‘2020 Group’ consists of a collective, renowned Sri Lankan artists of wide experience, from different disciplines, practicing distinctive styles with its members, Janaka Ratnayake, Wasantha Siriwardena, Anura Srinath, Nuwan Thenuwara, Rohan Dassanaieyake, Sunil Katugampola and Gamini Abeykoon, providing a platform to showcase their artistic creations to the art loving public in Sri Lanka. 

The purpose of this exhibition is to shift the spotlight back to representational art with sub-styles of realism, impressionism and figurative art, keeping abreast of international best practices to reduce the barriers paving the way for international recognition of Sri Lankan artists. The ‘2020 Group’ hopes to establish an Academy of Arts conducting courses adhering to international standards, set up a proper art gallery and participate in local and international art forums, art exhibitions, workshops, art fairs, competitions, artist exchange programs and add paintings to international art museums. They have drawn up an activity plan to approach their objectives in an organised and structured way to attract sponsors in order to make their goals a reality.
