According to Sri Lanka China Society President Jinith de Silva this society is highly appreciative of the stand taken by the Amity Foundation and Alibaba Philanthropy to help the poorest of the poor children living in Sri Lanka who were badly affected by the fallout of Covid 19, Pandemic in 2020- 2021.

The Pandemic resulted in lowering the living standards of everybody around with special emphasis on the poor Community who were laborers, who used to earn a living on a daily basis by working in their neighborhood. The worst affected were children of these workers who could not go to work during recent lockdowns imposed by Health authorities; aimed at controlling the epidemic. Poor parents lost their livelihood could not send their children to school due to lack of resources.

Thanks to the Amity Foundation and Alibaba Philanthropy for stepping in at a time like this to help 455 less affluent children by offering Rs 18000/ in cash, Rs 3000/ worth stationary and Rs 3000/ worth essential food items per child.

For this purpose Sri Lanka China Society selected 455 students from 12 rural schools on the basis of recommendation of the school principals, Grama Niladaries and Divisional Secretaries.

Preparing the lists of 455 students to provide cash, school packs and essential food items was an arduous task taken by the Committee members of Sri Lanka China society. School Principals and parents highly appreciated the donations at a time of need and conveyed their satisfaction and appreciation to the Sri Lanka China society.
On the other hand some parents who could not afford to send their children to schools due to various shortcomings, such as lack of resources were able to send their children back to schools. So the school dropouts were reduced to a minimum as the resources provided by the Amity Foundation would allow children to overcome their difficulties and proceed with their studies for some time.

Considering the fact that the parents of all students selected were daily wage earners- who lost their earnings capacity due to Covid-19 fallout. It was timely that the Amity Foundation decided to help these less
affluent students.
