Maldivian crime thriller ‘Vishka’ will be screened to mark the SAARC Film Day, on Wednesday (July 31) at 6 pm at Liberty Cinema, Colombo 3.

Organised by SAARC Cultural Centre, this 2017 film was directed by Ravee Farooq and produced by Aishath Rishmy under Yaaraa Productions.

Entrance for the movie is free of charge and will be on a first come, first served basis. The organisers request moviegoers to bring the flyer for easy access.

Starring Farooq, Rishmy and Ahmed Saeed in pivotal roles, the movie revolves around Vishka and the psychological war of good and evil she faces.

The movie involves a single-minded woman who falls blindly in love with a man full of evil. Although she initially presumes that love could change him, she slowly begins to realise the grave mistake she has made. As she becomes entrapped and lured deeper into his dangerous world, her only chance of escape is death.

Following an idea at the tenth SAARC Summit held in Colombo from 29 - 31 July 1998, SAARC Cultural Centre was later commenced with the aim of promoting peace and unity through culture.

The mission of the Centre is to bring the people of South Asia together to celebrate and exchange the cultural heritage of the region, and to strengthen the relationship through sharing of regional dances, music, theatre, literature, cinema and arts.

The objectives of SAARC Cultural Centre also include the promotion of regional unity through cultural integration and intercultural dialogue and contribute towards preservation, conservation and protection of South Asia’s cultural heritage within the framework of the SAARC Agenda for Culture.
