Schoolchildren who received scholarships pose for a photograph
Friendship entered through the fabulous and traditional Silk Route from ancient China to this land many centuries ago. Since then China and Sri Lanka has established close relations in economic and cultural fields.
In any disaster time China has been among the first to come to Sri Lanka for assistance. We are happy to state that P R China has come forward to assist us in numerous ways particularly during Covid 19 period and the present economic crisis says Jinith de Silva, President of the Sri Lanka China society.
After the Covid 19, as a response to a request by Sri Lanka China Society several N G O s in China granted 1000 scholarships worth Rs 26 M to needy students. Each student received Rs 25000 as one time donation.
“Our Society granted most of these scholarships to Students in rural areas in our country. Particularly Jaffna,Trincomalee, Monaragala, Puttalam and Hambantota.
“In addition to that we are very happy to say that we have already granted 25 scholarships to needy students of the Maduwa Vidyalaya located in the island of Madu River in Balapitiya under this programme,” states Sri Lanka China Society President Jinith de Silva said in a press release.
