The Machine Postmarks of Sri Lanka’ by Harsha R. Rupasinghe is an attempt to bring up to date the knowledge of our machine postmarks. According to the author, a noted philatelist, no other book has been dedicated to this important and interesting area of our country’s postal history.

Machine postmarks are of two types: non-slogan and slogan postmarks. Slogan postmarks, which reflect the history of the country to a certain extent, are of wide interest. Some examples of old postal slogans: ‘Are you a wireless listener’, ‘Go to the Motor Show’, ‘Write addresses fully and legibly’, ‘Do not pause while dialing telephone numbers’.

The author says there may be envelopes with slogans among your old letters and you may even be the holder of a rare or unknown slogan. This book demonstrates that everyone has a chance of making a new philatelic discovery.

The book was exhibited under the philatelic literature class at the Thailand 2018 World Stamp Exhibition held under the patronage of the Federation Internationale de Philatelie (FIP) and the auspices of the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately (FIAP). It was awarded a ‘Large Silver’ medal .The exhibition was held in Bangkok from 28th November to 3rd December and was organised by the Philatelic Association of Thailand.
