Despite the passage of time since the horrifying Easter Sunday bombings, we as a nation are still unable to understand and come to terms with what happened on that seemingly beautiful morning.
Yet, Sri Lanka has come together as a nation to support each other through the pain to move forward and carry on with life. This attitude of hope and perseverance was brought to life on the stage of the Lionel Wendt by the all-female ensemble Soul Sounds.
‘Steal Away’ was held on October 19 at the Lionel Wendt. Directed by Soundarie David Rodrigo, the show comprised of the gospel and inspirational songs such as the original ‘Where is my Promised Land’ lyricised by Soul Sounds’ own Lilanka Botejue, the Lord’s Prayer, Oceans by Hillsong United and Fix You by Coldplay.

The show was emotional and thought-provoking movement through the themes of grief, hope and remembrance, reminding the audience of the sadness that still lingers but also helping them to understand that there is hope for everyone.
In true Soul Sounds style, the show was not only a night of music but also a night of beginnings. It showcased Soul Sounds’ ability and skill in the many genres of music and also initiated their long term project concerning the well being of the survivors of the attacks, especially those of the Zion Church in Batticaloa.
The proceeds of the night, along with other funds Soul Sounds will raise throughout the year will contribute to the vision and efforts to provide the physical and mental support to those who were directly affected by the Easter Sunday bombings.
