Justice for Animals, a welfare organisation which focuses on spay-neuter and rabies vaccination campaigns of homeless cats and dogs, as well as pets whose owners cannot afford the vet costs, is hosting a market called ‘The Aluth Pola.’ The market features several small businesses and four different charity groups; Justice for Animals, RCCI, Emerge and Child Action Lanka.
The market is intended to act as an affordable place for charities to sell their fundraising materials, and a stepping stone for small business “start-ups”. Over twenty vendors will be holding stalls at ‘The Aluth Pola’, selling plants, baked goods, food items, books, jewellery, art, clothing, miscellaneous items and bath products. The proceeds will immensely benefit the charities and small businesses.
This year alone, Justice for Animals has spayed and neutered over 2,200 animals in several locations islandwide, including Chilaw, Kalpitiya, Sabaragamuwa Province, Ratnapura District, Kalutara, Matugama, Puttalam, Middeniya and Gothatuwa and Angoda. Their goal is to sterilise and vaccinate 3,000 - 3,200 animals a year, hence making great strides at reducing the homeless stray population.
Visit The Aluth Pola on Sunday, the 16th of August, at Body Bar from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shop your heart out, all the while contributing to a worthy cause.
