The Annual Josephian Christmas Carol Service was held recently at Rev. Dr. Stanley Abeysekara Sports Complex cum Auditorium at St. Joseph’s College recently. The carol service was organised by the St. Cecilia’s Choir of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10. The Josephian Christmas Carol was titled ‘JesuSalvator Mundi’; which means “Saviour of the World”.
It is for many of us, the most wonderful time of the year. “Christmas Cheer” is that thing which is often referred to by those who believe December is the season to be joyful. Without Christmas Carols, Christmas would not be Christmas. From Angel singing, bell ringing ebullience to deep and spiritual contemplation nothing can match the Christmas Carol in terms of creating an atmosphere. The Josephian Carols, sung by the young Josephians and teachers was simply overwhelming.
It was also the perfect way to evoke feelings of nostalgia, which made the attendees feel elated and have a sense of longing simultaneously.
The Josephian Choristers sang the Christmas carols in English, Sinhala, Tamil and Latin Languages in a joyful manner, which was greatly admired and appreciated by the audience on that day. The tunes were wonderfully melodic and brightened the environment.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His Lordship delivered a wonderful Christmas message on the importance of being “infected by Jesus to act like Jesus”.
Rev. Fr. RanjithAndradi, the Rector/Principal of St.Joseph’s College during his vote of thanks, thanked Almighty God and St. Joseph for their blessings, Esteemed His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Anton Ranjith, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo, for gracing the occasion and the organizing Committee, Reverend Fathers, Reverend Sisters and Rev. Fr. Samesh Anthony, The Priest-in-Charge, Mr. Francis D’ Almeida, the Choral Director and Trainer, Members of the Teachers and Old Joes Choir, Choir Leaders, Senior and Primary Choristers, Sponsors, Advertisers, Donors, providers of lights and sound, members of the College band, Prefects, Stewards and members of the Media Circle, Parents and everyone who joined to witness the beautiful Programme.
