I wish the next parliament of new members elected unitedly vote for the abolition of the wretched position of the President. Before that a figurehead person will be elected at the end of the year. He or she will have to resign if the House of Representatives pass a law to that effect. Then we can save the money spent on the President with the temporary figurehead being nominated as a member in the new parliament by the wining party. Who is going to be the Prime Minister?
There is a tight competition among the main and assorted parties. But the masters are the people who vote. The masses, as a whole have lost confidence with most of the present politicians. But there are loyal supporters for each party. It is the eligible voters that are going to decide the winning party with the components of other smaller parties. Who could that be? It is not predictable. It is the parties in the South that will fight it out. Although the parties concerned claim themselves that they have influence in the far North and East and central hills as national parties, they are in fact more concerned with the masses in the South. It is natural.
A great majority of the so-called minority communities like the Tamils, Muslims, Malays, and Burghers et al are dispersed in other parts of the country. The Tamils among them live in the North and a less number in the East, the West, South and the hill country. Likewise, the Muslims too live in the East, West, South and the hill country. They have their legitimate but peculiar problems which are not solved fully.
Although the southern parties want all of us as Sri Lankans, unwise people had not realized the power of the minorities, because they are even stronger in
many fields.
We should ignore the foolish and racist elements if elected because they will always remain as frogs in the well. Even some of the clergy are prompted by twisted history of the past and far removed from reality. They must re-learn their respective religions under the wise and respected clergy from among various religions.
Diplomacy, Tact, Politeness, Wisdom, Pragmatic, Active, People-friendly people should be elected as members of Parliament. We have a number of experienced and intellectual MPs in all parties. The Opposition does not mean just oppose everything the Government proposes but act in unison positively. The Opposition is a shadow of
the government.
To arrest hasty legislation, we must have cool and wise intellectuals and professionals to fill the second chamber to be established.
Some of the privileges enjoyed by parliamentarians, which run into massive expenses can be done away with. To cut expenses, the Provincial Council system too must be abolished.
Above all, whatever Government comes to power, they cannot afford to keep the minority
communities discontented.

Several overhauls are necessary in all fields to make the country stand strong as all citizens equal as any other developed countries.
Errant criminals belonging to any party should be brought before an impartial court and
punished accordingly.
The Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim and other people fear for their security but it is possible for all of us to live happily despite our own individual characteristics of culture, language and the like; it is the willingness, changed attitudes of our minds that matter. All of us should relearn, revise our petty understanding of the human stature.
In a fast changing electronic and digital world, we are bound to lose our prestigious ethnic nationalism.
Improved communication in travelling will narrow down our superiority complex and greater communication among people and the mindset of
all of us.
In the rest of the period in this century, we need our politicians to get ready for the changes instead of harping on one communal individuality. Farsighted thinking is absolutely necessary for ours and generations to follow us for our existence.
So, we must choose the right ,educated and pragmatic leaders who will think anew.
