The construction of the Sakhaya Colony has been halted since a long period of time. Residents of the Kahapola area claim that the land has become a haven for drug users. The construction of this colony commenced in 2017 at a cost of Rs. 500 million over a 78 acre land at Regidale Estate, Kahapola, Piliyandala. It was planned to open in parallel with the Vesak festival in 2019.

The health authorities commenced vaccinating students with Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) vaccines in regional level for the first time since the schools had been closed for months. HPV vaccine is introduced into the national immunization programmeto prevent cervical cancer in future. All girls in grade 6 are given the HPV vaccination on completion of 10 years. The funeral of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s personal physician, Eliyantha White was held at the Borella crematorium today. White died from the COVID-19 infection on Wednesday evening after being hospitalized for weeks at a private hospital in Colombo. He was a self-proclaimed spiritual healer, very popular among the VIPs and often used herbs in his treatments.
