A Historic Pichcha Mal Pooja in Kelaniya



In celebration of the 52nd anniversary of the Sri Kalyani Dhamma School, a special Pichcha Mal Pooja was held at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya on a recent day, organized by the Past Students’ Association of the Sri Kalyani Dhamma School.

The event took place under the esteemed guidance of the Chief incumbent of the Sri Kalyani Raja Maha Viharaya, the Chancellor of the Kelaniya University, Agga Maha Pandita, Mahopadhyaya, Senior Professor Ven. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhita Thera. The puja was conducted with the spiritual guidance of Ven. Pannalok Bhuddharakkhita, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at Kelaniya University, and the Principal of the Dhamma Vidyalaya.   

During the event, 108 golden vessels adorned with Pichcha flowers, which were offered as part of a sacred Buddhist ritual to the Cetiya. The event included traditional dance and music and was honoured by the presence of esteemed monks. The pooja was conducted by Venerable Maharagama Paduma Thera, the patron of the Kalubowila Meditation Centre.   

This ceremony, held to mark the 52nd anniversary of the Dhamma Vidyalaya, which was officially inaugurated in 1972, is considered one of the most significant religious events organized by the Association. The occasion was attended by the Chairman and members of Dayaka Sabha of the Sri Kalyani Raja Maha Viharaya, along with other distinguished donors and invitees.
