Anamaduwa Traffic OIC dies in car crash in pursuit of cattle thieves

OIC Traffic Branch in Anamaduwa police died in an accident in the early hours of last morning when he was giving chase to apprehend a lorry transporting cattle. The deceased SI Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Ajith Hemantha (38) was a resident of Nikaweratiya and father of one child   

Police said SI Hemantha with OIC Anti -Vice Unit was giving chase in his private motorcar to seize a suspicious lorry when the motorcar veered off the road and crashed into the clock tower in Anamaduwa Town due to excessive speed. The other police officer was seriously injured and admitted to Anamaduwa Base Hospital.   
Investigations revealed that the lorry transporting cattle had fled from the scene.   A police team under OIC Anamaduwa Police CI Saman Kumara is conducting further investigations.
