The government doctors and the Ayurvedic physicians in the Sabaragamua Province have joined hands to bring under control the COVID-19 virus through a programme launched by the Provincial Council.
Governor Sabaragamuwa Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa told at a meeting to issue a stock of Ayurvedic drugs to the government doctors to be used in boosting the immunity of the infected. He said Ayurvedic Physicians would be deployed at all treatment centres in the Kegalle and Ratnapura Districts and stocks of drugs issued.
The Governor said the Provincial Health Services Department and the Department of Indigenous Medicine had consented to the programme. He pointed out for the first time in the history that indigenous medicine was being used in addition to western medicine to boost the immunity of the patients.
Provincial Director of Health Services Dr. Kapila Kannangara said 624 COVID-19 infected patients were receiving treatment at centres in Rambukkana, and Undugoda in the Kegalle District and, Embilipitiya, Kahawatte and Samanalawewa in the Ratnapura District.
Provincial Commissioner of Ayurdeva Douglas Pathirage, Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Shamendra Ranasinghe, Chief Secretary Ranjani Jayakody, and Governor’s Private Secretary Manjula Indigahawela were present at the occasion.
