E-cigarettes worth Rs.2Mn from Malaysia seized at BIA



An attempt to carry a large stock of electronic cigarettes  worth over Rs.2 million by a Sri Lankan male returning from Malaysia was  nabbed by the police at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on  Sunday.   

The Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) officials stationed at the  BIA Arrival Terminal searched a passenger on suspicion and found about  1,105 e-cigarettes packed in his baggage.   

According to police sources, the passenger had boarded a  Malaysia Airlines flight MH 179 from Kuala Lumpur and had arrived in BIA  at 11.00 pm.   

The 36-year-old passenger, a resident of Periyamulla,  Negombo, had been handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs officials at the  BIA.   

The Customs after conducting the preliminary inquiries  released the suspect on a fine of Rs.500,000 and the illicit  consignment was forfeited. (K.K.K.)
