Earth-slip on Nallathanniya- Maskeliya main road Traffic comes to standstill

As a result of the torrential rains experienced in the Maskeliya area yesterday, a large mound of earth collapsed onto the Nallathanniya- Maskeliya Road by which all traffic movement near the “Mohini “waterfalls were disrupted. The earth slip had occurred in the vicinity where a roadwidening work had been in progress. The police have advised motorists to use the alternate road through the Laxapana Tea Estate, Walamala section temporarily. The OIC of Nallathanniya Police Station cautioned motorists using that stretch of road to be aware of the fact that the road near that Waterfalls was prone to frequent earth slips during heavy rains in the area and opined that a permanent solution had to be evolved to overcome the situation.
