Although the very people who voted for this government now say that “Sir” has failed, it is not “Sir” but the ideology he represents that has failed, former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said yesterday.
During a meeting organized by Matara electorate leader of the UNP and the Opposition Leader of Matara Municipal Council Upul Nishantha to form a new organization called “Matara Samajaya,” Samaraweera said that despite people having given every power that was requested by the leaders of the SLPP, the country was now in an unprecedented mess.
“They promised to make a Singapore out of Sri Lanka. People gave them the power to do so. Then they wanted to do away with the independent commissions and adopted the 20th Amendment. Four months have passed since, now the country is in a mess, the economy is in a crisis, rule of law has gone missing, the country is being isolated in the world, those who accused of murders have become members of Parliament” the former minister lamented.
Making his first public appearance since the August Parliamentary election during which he withdrew his candidature, Samaraweera said the disaster that had brought in by all governments that had the two-thirds of Parliamentary power is bigger than the service they had done to the country.
He said that inmates of prisons who demanded protection from COVID 19 were killed and the parents of the victims were blamed for bringing them up.
