Lunawa hospital converted to Covid-19 Centre for women

The Moratuwa Lunawa District Hospital has been converted into a Covid -19 treatment hospital for women, the Lunawa District Medical Officer Jayalath Jayathilaka said yesterday (18).


The capacity of the hospital is 80 beds and already there are 75 patients receiving treatment while another five patients are expected from Polonnaruwa, he said.   


The Covid -19 patients in the hospital are all women and they have been infected from Katunayaka, Seeduwa, Divulapitiya and Minuwangoda.   


With the influx of Covid patients transferred by the National Corona Control Centre the other patients undergoing treatment in the hospital have been transferred to the Panadura and Piliyandala base hospitals  and necessary medical facilities have been arranged for these patients in the relevant hospitals, the medical
officer said.   


After examining the patients, serious cases with respiratory difficulties will be transferred to the IDH.   
All medical clinics at the hospital have now been suspended however the accident ward is in operation at a different building in the hospital premises while the OPD section has also been transferred to the Lunawa Ayurveda hospital, he said.   


 He said precautions have been made to prevent the spread of Covid 19 to surrounding areas .   
The health service including nurses duties have been arranged on 3 shifts of 8 hours basis and all protective measures have been taken with the police to prevent the escape of patients from
the hospital .
