The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) announced that electricity tariffs will remain unchanged for this year, due to delays in the submission of proposals by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Initially, the CEB submitted tariff revision proposals at the end of September, but the PUCSL found them inadequate and requested revised proposals by November 8. However, the CEB sought multiple extensions and missed the final deadline of November 22, ultimately requesting an additional two weeks. The PUCSL has now extended the deadline to December 6.
Even if revised proposals are submitted by this new deadline, the PUCSL has stated it will require six to eight weeks to review and finalize any adjustments. Therefore, any changes to electricity tariffs are now expected to be deferred until 2025.
