A doctor identified four suspects in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday (12) in connection with the incident where he was intimidated and robbed of one million and fifteen thousand rupees at a massage centre in Bambalapitiya.
The identification process took place before the Colombo Additional Magistrate, who ordered the four suspects to be remanded until the 18th.
The Colombo District candidate of the People’s Struggle Alliance and her husband, who are alleged to have supported the incident, were ordered to be released on two sureties.
According to the Bambalapitiya Police, the victim received an invitation for a body massage and was promised the service upon his arrival. However, upon reaching the location, he was threatened and assaulted by the couple, who forced him to transfer Rs. 1 million through online banking.
In addition to the online bank transfer, the suspects had also stolen Rs. 15,000 from the victim’s wallet.
Police arrested the couple, aged 44 and 54, who are residents of Piliyandala, along with the three-wheeler that was used in the crime.
Following further investigations, police arrested four more suspects, aged between 19 and 23 from Ratmalana and Mount Lavinia.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects have been involved in similar crimes on multiple occasions.
