The excellent heath care system of the country has helped to successfully control Covid- 19 pandemic in Sri Lanka. Hence, the government is fully committed to protect and further develop the free health service of Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
Mr. Rajapaksa made these remarks as the chief guest while participating in the pinning and capping ceremony held at the Colombo Nursing School where 298 nurses successfully completed their three- year nurses training course were released for service.
We have been able to contain the deadly viral infection and restrict the number of deaths from the pandemic to less than 15 and infections to less than 3,500 in a situation where a large number of big and powerful countries struggle to contain the spread of Covid- 19 and related deaths to the minimum possible. Millions of people in those countries have fallen victims and hundreds of thousands of others have succumbed to this unprecedented health problem,” Mr. Rajapaksa pointed out.
In the fight against Covid- 19, the service of doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health staff was highly commendable and appreciative as they attended to Covid- 19 patients facing a major risk.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa said the government had already taken steps to upgrade the three- year Diploma training course of nurses to a four- year degree course with special focus on English language with the aim of Sri Lanka’s nurses to be on par with the global nursing standard enabling them to secure employment abroad with higher salaries.
