Two suspects including a man who had posed as a doctor to sell vehicles were arrested for defrauding several people using the “easy- cash” money system.
The suspects had deceived several people by offering a vehicle and a motor cycle for sale.
Accordingly, the suspect and another who aided and abetted him by pretending to be a doctor, was arrested on Tuesday in Kegalle by a team of police officers attached to the Special Bureau of the Kegalle Police HQ.
The suspect who had impersonated a doctor employed in a Government hospital in Ampara had published advertisements stating that a vehicle and a motorcycle belonging to the Doctor were available for sale in several web sites that promoted of vehicle sale.
He had lured the prospective buyers to contact him through the telephone number 078-2535197 after valuing the vehicle and the motorcycle below the market rate. He had informed the prospective buyers that the relevant vehicles were available in Moneragala and that several buyers were keen in purchasing them.
Money had been obtained fraudulently from prospective buyers through “easy- cash” transfer using mobile number 077-3287178 promising that the vehicles were available on ‘first come first served’ basis who made an advance payment.
Police said complaints were received from Kohuwala, Athurugiriya and Minuwangoda against the suspects and police urged the public to lodge a complaint with police if they had been victims of this fraud.
