The SLFP discussed the smear campaign and the blame- game that had been launched by a section of the government against the SLFP, with the SLPP leadership on Monday, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
He told the media that certain backbenchers of the government were in a habit of criticising and blaming the SLFP and harassing the SLFP local organisers.
“We presented the facts to the SLPP leadership about these vituperative politics against the SLFP carried out by a section of the SLPP, at the party leaders’ meeting yesterday. Top leaders of the SLPP would never act in a manner that harms the SLFP. All of them respect our party. However, we do not get disappointed from the vilification .
This is why they are attacking us and our party. However, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and SLPP National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa agreed to focus on our problems and provide solutions,” Minister Amaraweera said.
Commenting on the commencement of the Sri Pada pilgrimage season, Minister Amaraweera requested the devotees to Samanala Kanda not to dump garbage, polythene and plastic waste in the Samanala Kanda area during the Siripa pilgrimage season which commenced on the Unduwap full moon Poya Day.
The Environmental Police has been instructed to enforce the law to the letter against those who disposed plastics, empty bottles, cans and polythene, he said.
