STF seizes 10 kg of gold at Kalpitiya

The STF arrested a 34-year-old man at Palaviya in Kalpitiya yesterday on charges of attempting to smuggle out of the country some 10 kg of gold which were concealed under the seat of the car he was travelling in.   

Investigations revealed that the suspect was planning to smuggle the gold to India through sea routes.   

The resident of Puttalam had revealed that he had been given a contract to transport the gold from Palaviya 
to Kalpitiya.   

The suspect was handed over to the police for questioning.   

The raid was carried out by a team led by Puttalam Police Special Task Force OIC, Inspector Karunaratne under the direction of STF Commander Waruna Jayasundara and Deputy Commanding Officer SSP Faisal Hajji.
