The general public staged a demonstration yesterday, Monday (22) for closing the Sappachchimawadi Pillaiyar Kovil Street adjacent to the Jaffna Chavakachcheri Base Hospital and laying out a railway line over it.

The demonstration was later abandoned  by the general public after an assurance was given by the Minister of Traditional Industries and   Small Enterprise Development  Douglas Devananda , that the Street will be reconstructed.

The test drive of Yaldevi was scheduled on Monday (22) morning, however, the general public staged a demonstration and said that the train will be permitted to proceed only if the Street that was closed would be opened up again.

Following the assurance from the Minister the demonstrators handed over their petition to him and gave up their protest.
