CHULA BANDARA



It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of CHULA BANDARA, former Member of Parliament for the Kurunegala district, a distinguished lawyer, educator and diplomat, who departed this life on 22nd December. A proud past pupil of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, where he served as a College Prefect, Chula excelled both academically and in leadership. He went on to graduate from the University of Peradeniya, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to knowledge, service and excellence. In his early career, Chula was a renowned teacher of chemistry and physics, shaping the minds of many young students. Transitioning to the legal profession, he served with distinction as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Department, where he contributed significantly to upholding justice. Chula further showcased his expertise as the first Company Secretary of Sampath Bank upon its incorporation and later served as a Board Director of the State Mortgage Bank and, most recently, at GFlock Clothing. A man of immense integrity and vision, Chula was twice elected as a Member of Parliament for the Kurunegala District, where he passionately worked for justice, equality and development for his constituents. Additionally, he served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Poland, representing the nation with dignity and honour. Chula Bandara leaves behind his beloved wife, Pushpa and their three devoted children, Probodini, Thulani and Sidath, he was a cherished father-in-law to Methmal, Bhathiya and Harini and a proud grandfather to Yasindu, Kisholi, Soneli, Aaryn, Julius, Noah and Sienna. Chula’s legacy as a visionary leader, educator and statesman will continue to inspire all who knew him. The remains lie at A.F. Raymond’s Funeral Parlour. The Funeral service will be held on 24th December 2024 at 3.00 p.m. May he attain the supreme bliss of Nibbhana.
