AIA Insurance continued its community support in a novel way during the sacred month of Vesak, by organising a first of its kind ‘Digital Dane’.
The ‘Digital Dane’ was a virtual alms giving that invited AIA’s social media followers to engage with a spiritual wish during Vesak. It was based on the five powerful blessings associated with the Dane, being Ayu (Long life), Warna (Beauty), Sapa (Comfort/Happiness), Bala (Strength) and Pragnya (Wisdom). Notably, these five blessings are intricately connected to AIA’s purpose of helping people live healthier, longer, better lives.
AIA donated Rs.100 on behalf of everyone that engaged with the meritorious wish on social media and the collection of AIA’s donations were put to good use in funding ten wheelchairs to HelpAge Sri Lanka. The wheelchairs were a much-needed item for the charity organisation and will be used by underprivileged elders so that they could be mobile and more independent.
“Spirit of giving and supporting is such a significant part of being Sri Lankan, and as a brand deeply respectful of our local traditions, we look for avenues to bring these to light. Irrespective of these difficult times, AIA Insurance remains steadfast in our commitment to support different sections of our society,” said AIA’s Chief Executive Officer Chathuri Munaweera.
He added that this Vesak he entity chose to help our senior citizens via HelpAge and is thankful for the overwhelming positive responses of those who joined the event in through social media.
Executive Director of HelpAge Sri Lanka Samantha Liyanawaduge thanked AIA for the donation.
“Support has been low due to the current situation in the country, and we are so happy that AIA reached out to help us when we needed it. This valuable donation by AIA will give the gift of mobility to ten underprivileged elders who would otherwise be confined to their beds and indeed it’s a meritorious act that is most appreciated in the spirit of Vesak,” said Liyanawaduge.
HelpAge Sri Lanka is a charitable non-governmental organisation working for and on behalf of disadvantaged senior citizens in the country. It functions with an objective to improve the quality of the lives of elders and is dependent on the generosity of the society.
