With the sustainable wellbeing of the environment at heart, Cargills (Ceylon) PLC launched the ‘Breath of Life’ campaign and pledged to plant as many trees as possible within Colombo and across the country.
In line with this campaign, on August 07th, Cargills partnered with the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), and undertook the planting of trees at Fort and Thimbirigasyaya.
The renowned red and white Cargills building, a heritage site in the heart of Colombo backed by a rich history, marked the perfect location to plant Karanda trees.
With the much-appreciated support of Professor Nalaka Mendis, Cargills also brought ‘Thimbiri’ back to Thimbirigasyaya, where thimbiri trees – widely believed to be the inspiration for the town name - were planted along the main road. CMC Commissioner, Roshanie Dissanayake, patronised the event as its Chief Guest. The Road Development Authority (RDA) and the Forest Department also assisted in making this event a reality.
Tree planting is one of the simplest and most effective ways to tackle climate change caused by greenhouse gases.
With this ‘Breath of Life’ campaign, Cargills’ vision to enrich the environment and curb climate change is further strengthened with the support of all state bodies involved. Cargills is more empowered than ever to unite in view of a better and healthier planet, while remaining committed to our communities, environment and future generations to come.
