Chevron CEO shares leadership experience with senior parliamentary staff

Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC MD/CEO Kishu Gomes was invited to speak to the senior leaders and functional heads of the parliamentary staff titled ‘Modern-day leadership demands for optimum results thru team work’.

The ‘Seminar on capacity building for parliamentary secretariat’, held at Citrus Hotel Wadduwa recently, funded by the USAID, was to improve the functioning of the parliament through a three-day capacity development programme for three different levels of staff.  Day three dedicated to the senior leaders, where Gomes addressed the first session was inaugurated by Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya. Following the Speaker’s speech, Parliament Secretary General Dhammika Dassanayake outlined the objectives and set the expectations around the desired transformation needed for the parliament staff to be of greater value to all its stakeholders by honouring the obligations fully with the acquisition of modern, creative and efficient leadership techniques and best practices on team work drawn from the resource persons.   


As the only resource person representing the private sector, under the topic “Modern-day leadership demands for optimum results thru team work” Kishu Gomes covered many aspects of leadership development and performing as a team including, understanding the role of a manager vs leader, leadership environment challenges for leaders to navigate, challenges in creating a unified culture for single direction and focus,

putting in place compliance and conformance environment to support it, building a high-performing team with a passionate workforce and making them accountable, revolutionary leadership to motivate people to enhance productivity and winning in the eyes of others.  Gomes has addressed many national and international forums on various topics and had the unique opportunity of addressing the Global Marketing Forum in Bangkok. As a well-known private sector business leader on the invitation by the government he has had the rare opportunity of addressing the Oil Exploration Technology Conference- 2007 in Texas, to promote Sri-Lanka’s oil exploration opportunity, Commonwealth Youth Forum (CHOGM) - 2013 in Hambantota and the World Conference on Youth 2014 in Colombo to name a few. 


Gomes shares his knowledge and experience with private and public sector organisations and professional and educational institutes with the intention of making the Sri-Lankan workforce a competitive to gain economic independence for Sri Lanka.
