The first batch of trainees at the Ceylon German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI), Borella, sponsored by David Pieris Motor Company (Pvt.) Ltd (DPMC), passed out recently while the second batch was recruited simultaneously.  

The CGTTI Borella Centre, which had been temporarily inactive, recommenced its operation in 2019, with the support of DPMC.  This included providing a Bajaj three-wheeler and two motorcycles for training purposes along with a set of special tools, spare parts and other training material.  

This year-long National Vocational Qualification Level 04 (NVQ 04) course includes a six-month theoretical training at CGTTI Borella, followed by another six months of salaried on-the-job training at the DPMC workshops.  
Commenting on this, DPMC Deputy General Manager Services Channa Ranawaka said, “Out of the 22 students in the first batch, seven have already started their on-the-job training at DPMC workshops. Another 15 students are undergoing the same training at DPMC service dealers in and around their respective residential areas.” 

Ranawaka also indicated that DPMC expects to continue this programme in collaboration with the CGTTI, Borella. 
The new batch recruitment ceremony was held recently under the patronage of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation State Minister Dr. Seetha Arambepola. On the invitation from the CGTTI, Borella, DPMC Director Parts and Accessories Jayantha Ratnayake, Chief Marketing Officer Samantha Silva, Deputy General Manager Services Channa Ranawaka and other officials participated in this event. Both the state minister and officer in charge of the CGTTI Borella Centre commended the contribution made by DPMC to uplift the CGTTI Borella Centre.
