Sri Lanka’s market leader in tiles, Lankatiles recently debuted its QR code, whereby customers could conveniently access the full range of its products and verify maximum retail price (MRP) prior to purchase for optimum convenience and transparency.
This was introduced to encourage the industry to self-regulate as well as to protect consumers from unscrupulous elements within the market.
In addition to scanning the QR code, the MRP of products and other details can also be accessed via the customer support hotline or by visiting the official website www.lankatiles.com.
Commenting on this initiative, Lanka Tiles PLC and Lanka Walltiles PLC Managing Director Mahendra Jayasekara said, “As an enterprise with a legacy spanning many decades, Lankatiles is committed to setting and upholding industry benchmarks to ensure public welfare. Through this initiative, we hope customers will be inspired to use their power to rule out and penalise unscrupulous traders, who are exploiting the current circumstances i.e. limited supply due to import limitations put in place to remedy the forex crisis.”
He said that discipline through self-regulation was paramount for consumer protection and encouraged competitors and counterparts to follow suit.
The campaign to encourage strict adherence to MRP was adopted in light of the recent complaints about certain parties in the tile and sanitaryware market charging exorbitant prices inconveniencing the public as well as industries such as construction and plumbing.
Customers can complain about such price manipulations to the Consumer Affairs Authority via the hotline 1977.
