The installed waste bins were handed over to Kanda Ketiya Aththadassi - Thero Solosmasthana Bhaarakara, by Susil Priyantha, Assistant Regional Manager, People’s Leasing and Finance PLC
People’s Leasing contributed to the installation of waste segregation bins in Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya based on a need identified in collaboration with Central Cultural Fund and Department of Archeology under the guidance of Chief Incumbent of Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya.
The effort falls under one of the three focus areas of the CSR People’s Leasing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), environment conservation, whereas the other two focus areas are education upliftment, and empowerment of local communities.
The project was initiated in accordance with a concept by Shamindra Marcelline Chief Executive Officer/General Manager of People’s Leasing Company. The main objective of this initiative is to streamline the waste management process and assisting in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Peoples’ Leasing noted that solid waste segregation is an important part of the waste management chain and it facilitates easy ways to reduce, re-use and recycle as well as proper management of the solid waste. Through the development of this 3R methodology, it provides a beneficial effect on the conservation of the environment and to the well-being of human beings.

Present at the event were also Hishan Welmilla, Manager – Marketing, Communication and Sustainability of People’s Leasing, Nalaka Suresh - Branch Manager, Chammika Jayamantha - Second officer of People’s Leasing Polonnaruwa Branch, Thissa Bandara - Chief Supervisor, Central Cultural Fund, Polonnaruwa, Malinda Nishan - Regional Officer-Department of Archeology, and Chudath Balachandra - Public Health Inspector.
