Alumex PLC won two accolades at the National Business Excellence Awards 2014 held in Colombo last week hosted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. They won the “Runner - Up” award in the Manufacturing – Engineering sector and “2nd Runner - Up” award in the large business category which is for overall achievement across all the sectors. Winners were selected after a stringent evaluation in a wide array of management disciplines such as Leadership, Corporate Governance, Capacity Building, Performance Management, Market Reach, Corporate Social Responsibility, Environmental  Sustainability and Business and Financial Results. It is the first ever application submitted by Alumex PLC for an award and they were able to secure two awards showing their high standards and excellence in management practices.  

Further, the first ever Annual Report of Alumex PLC published after the Initial Public Offering at the Colombo Stock Exchange and registering as a Public Limited Company (PLC) this year (2014), was honored with a ‘Certificate of Compliance’ award in the manufacturing sector at the 50Th Annual Report Award Ceremony organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.  This recognition of Alumex report for its excellence in financial reporting which shows a high level of compliance to the Accounting standards, legislative reporting, comprehensiveness and good governance is remarkable.

Alumex commenced commercial operations in 1988 with a single extruder to manufacture Aluminium profiles and anodizing as its surface coating system to fulfill the Sri Lankan market needs. Die designing and Aluminium melting facility commenced to complete the total production process simultaneously for running the support services in-house.

During 26 years in business, Alumex PLC has become the undisputed leader in the Aluminium profile manufacturing industry enjoying over 50 percent market share over the last 15 years in Sri Lanka. The production capacities and expertise have continuously been developed and improved to retain its leadership position in the industry. Alumex now has three extruders, two powder coating plants, two anodizing plants, one wood finish plant, and one polishing and brightening plant in its two factories, Alumex PLC and Alco Industries (Pvt) Ltd, located at Sapugaskanda, Makola. 

Alumex has also taken steps to improve production efficiency by introducing CAD CAM technology with CNC - EDM and Wire cutting, die polishing machinery to the die shop, log shears & heaters to the extrusion lines and a Spectrometer to the laboratory to check the quality of Aluminium alloy metals among others.

Alumex has over 800 profile designs, 400 customized designs and proprietary profiles manufactured under license for world renowned Aluminium proprietary window & door system manufacturers, AluK of Italy and Fletcher Aluminium of New Zealand.

Alumex has an island wide dealer network in Sri Lanka and appointed dealers and fabricators in Maldives and India to expand their business in the overseas markets. Alumex also provides a very important service to the market by its fabricator training programs, provision of shop drawings, technical assistance, site visits on request by the customers and providing test reports and other relevant material all free of charge.

Recently Alumex introduced its own C (Euro) groove door and window system designs consisting of sliding folding door, lapped door, lapped casement window, turn and tilt window and the pivot window with safety and security features of multi-point locking options, elegant appearance; modern designs, high strength; high profile thickness for durability and to withstand environmental hazards.. 

Alumex has its Woodex coating profiles which have an attractive timber look in several colours and an array of powder coating colours with up to a 30 year warranty and also an anodizing colour range, brightening colour range and mill finished colour in profiles for the construction industry.
