Sri Lanka’s premiere boutique bakery, BreadTalk continues to wow customers from around the island with high standards, consistent quality and unique products; gaining massive popularity among both Sri Lankan and international expatriate consumers. Following the immense success of the first outlet in Lipton Circus, BreadTalk now has plans for a second outlet that will open shortly.
Speaking on the i mmense growth in brand perception Yatila Wijemanne, Managing Director, BreadTalk said “The foremost reason BreadTalk has been so successful is that we know what the Sri Lankan consumer wants; we believe in providing fresh, high quality products that are absolute value for money. We are currently working towards opening another outlet that will make BreadTalk more easily accessible to our valued customers”.
Operating as a part of FoodBuzz, the BreadTalk outlet launched at Lipton Circus in April marks the culmination of a vision over a decade in the making. The brainchild of Muzzaffar Ali Yaseen, Chairman of FoodBuzz, who first envisioned bringing BreadTalk to Sri Lanka after sampling the products available in an outlet in Singapore, has now grown into a true Sri Lankan phenomenon.
“We first contacted BreadTalk Singapore in 2001, but they were unwilling to consider Sri Lanka - at that point - due to the volatile political and economic state” Wijemanne explained “However, having seen how quickly Sri Lanka stabilized and developed post war, our requests were finally met and BreadTalk in Sri Lanka became a reality. With the massive success of the launch of our first outlet, the franchise in Singapore is more supportive than ever of opening more outlets in Sri Lanka”.
With an initial investment of approximately Rs.400million, the Sri Lankan arm of what is arguably one of the most loved brands across Asia focused on developing a state of the art central kitchen with modern technological integration, improving the companies logistical efficiencies and distribution network as well as training and human capital development. However a major focus of the company has been the development of the Lipton Circus Outlet and exploration of other potential outlets.
“With high standards maintained out of Singapore and our finger on the local pulse, we believe BreadTalk is in a position to change the way bread is perceived in Sri Lanka. Incorporating items that have never before been available in Sri Lanka with a restaurant concept like the open kitchen has set BreadTalk apart and established strong consumer trust in the quality of products available. It is this vision that carries us forward – to provide vibrant, affordable, high quality food that changes the scope of the baking industry in Sri Lanka.
