The Commercial Bank of Ceylon recently carried out another major CSR Project in the Northern Province by assisting the Jaffna General (Teaching) Hospital, one of the most widely patronized medical facilities in the area.

The Bank contributed nearly two million rupees from its CSR Trust to tile the floor and walls of Ward 09 of the hospital which accommodates 39 beds.

"The Jaffna Hospital provides invaluable service to the people of the entire Jaffna Peninsula and deserved our corporate support.  Even during the trouble times and in the face of many shortcomings and hardships, Jaffna Hospital and its staff rendered a service that was appreciated by all," said Sri Pathmanathan Rajeevan, the Regional Manager - North of Commercial Bank.

"With the ending of the war, many NGOs, both local and overseas came forward to support much needed renovations and new constructions at this Hospital and I am extremely pleased and thankful to the Board and the Management of the Commercial Bank for undertaking to renovate Ward No. 09 which serves those with common but often debilitating diseases," he said.

Speaking at the handing over, an official of the Jaffna hospital said that the hospital authorities were very happy about the quick response to their request by the Commercial Bank, an institution that has assisted the Hospital in the past as well.    Past initiatives of the Commercial Bank's CSR Trust include granting of scholarships to undergraduates, setting up IT Labs in schools, conducting programmes aimed at upgrading the standard of English Education, assisting Children's Homes, donating healthcare equipment and assisting vocational training projects.
