Social Media is catching fire. Recently Facebook announced the reach of its 500 millionth user. If it is treated as a country, Facebook is the 3rd largest today next to China and India. In Sri Lanka over 35% of Internet users are already using Facebook and the usage is increasing at a rapid rate.

In the World Wide Web, when it comes to shaping and reshaping the public opinion of a brand/company, social media plays a decisive role. There is no doubt that these social media channels can be effectively used for brand building, loyalty marketing, customer service, PR, crisis management and in all possible other business applications. Because of the popularity and the wide business application of social, a need currently exists for authoritative information source on “Social Media Marketing” among the decision makers who are involved in the online/internet marketing. Responding to this market need, a series of workshops on Social Media Marketing is being organized by the eBusiness-Academy and the 1st one of this series was successfully held on the 14th August 2010.
