The excellence in financial performance reflects the great strides Lanka Hospitals has made in their medical care and training services under the new management which changed hands in January this year.

Under new leadership and renewed vision, the hospital has taken on the mantle of being a pioneer and leader in operational excellence, even reaching out with their outstanding services to other countries in the region.

Medical services at Lanka Hospitals have expanded in all areas, including a 3 year training for nursing staff and educational programs for new parents.
Their achievements, accolades and awards are impressive; Lanka Hospitals surpassed the 750th successful kidney transplant, handled more than 800 IVF births and the highest number of adult and paediatric cardiac surgeries in the private sector.

The hospital will soon open their special unit for bone marrow transplants aided by Sri Lanka’s only dedicated hemato-oncology (blood cancer) facility, and another specialized center for gastroenterology. The proposed Gastroenterology (GE) Center will be equipped with cutting edge technology and Sri Lanka’s only PH Manometry and EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound) machines with a renowned bevy of Consultant doctors.
While curing and healing, Lanka Hospitals also takesin their stride the responsibility of training and has one of the most comprehensive nurses’ training schools in the country.Lanka Hospitals’ Nurses’ Training School (LHNTS) has 392 fully trained nurses, with a 111 assisting student nurses (under supervision) serving in every area of the hospital.

Two batches of approximately 30 Maldivian student nurses every year are given clinical training at LHNTS.In an extension of their corporation with the Maldives, Lanka Hospitals signed a MOU with Aasandha Insurance to provide specialist doctors to all corners of The Maldives.Three specialized consultants were sent to Kulhudhuffushi & Gang (Addu) Islands respectively for consultation in Hithadhoo regional hospitals (addu) & Kulhudhuffushi regional hospitals recently.

Lanka Hospitals IVF Center documents a 40% success rate equivalent to natural conception; a success rate identically documented by the World Health Organization. Open 365 days, it has the most modern equipment, enabling clients who opt for treatment the most stringent and naturally scheduled IVF cycles without manipulation.

Lanka Hospitals has now surpassed its 750th kidney transplant in just over 12 years since its inception. All transplants are carried out in compliance with several international guidelines of kidney societies’ law and ethics and necessary approvals from the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka.

Their Heart Center performs the highest number of both adult as well as pediatric cardiac surgeries in the private sector. It has been able to record close to 5500 heart surgeries so far and performs the highest number of heart surgeries in the private sector every month.

Recognizingthat prohibitive costs are a major deterrent to timely and good health care for major life-threatening illnesses, Lanka Hospitals has made pioneering moves to affiliate themselves with the National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) that provides affordable surgery, hospitalization and treatment to state sector employees through a compulsory insurance scheme called Agrahara. The affiliation paves the way for more transparent costs, with patients kept aware of exactly how much they will incur, thus letting them prepare their finances accordingly.

“We are constantly hunting for new innovative opportunities for new sources of income. We are looking seriously at improving the medical tourism sector, known to have a huge growth in this region.Wehope to take Lanka Hospitals to the next level by providing our talented body of consultant specialists with the state of the art equipment and any other support they need, to compete, not only inter-hospital at home, but also internationally, to make us one of the, if not the, best private health care service provider in South East Asia,” said Chairman, Procurement Committeeof Lanka Hospitals Dr. Rohan Wijesundera.
