Ruhunu Hospitals in the Southern Province, equipped with modern facilities and offering its services at affordable prices to patients, is currently in the process of revamping its new laboratory services arm Ruhunu Hospitals Diagnostics (RHD) with a view to providing quality, safe and efficient diagnostic services. This venture will be launched on December 1, 2015.

Ruhunu Hospitals Chairman Deepal Wickremasinghe stated, “We want to offer our customers the chance to enjoy first-rate diagnostic services. Our Diagnostic Centre is equipped with world-class machines and new technology which is supplied by Analytical Instruments, a leading supplier of laboratory equipment.

The hospital is also bringing a few changes to the existing set up which is Laboratory Information System (LIS) that automatically generates report results from the machines, thereby reducing any human errors or delays and guaranteeing patients of accurate and instant reports. A mobile app, which is compatible on IOS and Android, sends the patient an SMS once the report is ready, which can be checked through the patients e-mail, in turn eliminating the hassle of visiting the hospital to collect reports.

Outlining the other facilities available Wickremasinghe said, “Our Deluxe and Super Deluxe rooms provide both luxury and comfort to our patients and includes facilities such as A/C, TV, hot and cold water and a mini fridge.”

He added, “We also enjoy the privilege of obtaining services from over 100 consultants of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. These consultants are highly qualified, experienced professionals and specialists with niche disciplines. Since our hospital is near the Teaching Hospital consultants too prefer to visit us first prior to other hospitals.”

The ICU unit of the hospital is positioned to be the best in the region and has a team of highly trained senior staff members with wide exposure to modern-day scenarios. Outpatient services are yet another benefit that could be derived by patients. The hospital is also geared with a fleet of ambulances offering home visits.

In addition, Ruhunu Hospitals recently commissioned two modern operating theatres. Currently surgeries in regard to multiple disciplines - eye, orthopaedic, vascular, neurosurgery, general, ENT, gastro, urological, oncology, oral and maxillofacial, paediatric, plastic and reconstructive surgeries are conducted in these theatres.

Ruhunu Hospitals is also currently the sole sperm-bank owner in the private sector in the Southern Province.

Subsequent to the relaunch of RHD wing, Ruhunu Hospitals will embark on having multiple collection centres in the Southern Province. Hence, multiple laboratories and a network of collection centres are in the offing.

Wickremasinghe commented, “We seek to partner with both foreign and local companies/entities towards innovating medical tourism in the country. Currently we have foreign insurance companies delegating patients to us. We want to take a lead role in this much-needed initiative which can generate high-net tourists as ‘wellness medical tourism’, currently a huge growth area.”

“Ruhunu Hospital is also increasing its current portfolio of services and will move into more specialized services in the near future,” concluded Wickremasinghe.
