Home-grown clothing label, Tropic of Linen, is set to open a boutique in Colombo on December 13, 2014. Specialising in premium linen apparel for men and women, Tropic of Linen has been retailing at the Orchid House, at the historic Galle Fort heritage site, for over seven years. However the opening of the Colombo boutique, situated at No. 1 Wijerama Road, Colombo 7, marks the brand’s first exclusive store.
The Tropic of Linen brand is owned by Quantum International, an established apparel manufacturer with over two decades experience producing premium quality clothing. All designs under the Tropic of Linen brand are produced at the label’s own manufacturing plant and are individually checked for quality to ensure that each piece matches the exacting standards of the Tropic of Linen brand.
Available in a range of chic and versatile styles tailored to suit a variety of silhouettes, Tropic of Linen incorporates silk and cotton into its designs alongside a unique collection of linen pieces inspired by the traditional Sri Lankan Batik method. All batik products are hand-made by individual designers working in cottage industries in rural Sri Lanka, ensuring that no two pieces are alike while helping to support and develop this vibrant hallmark of Sri Lankan culture.
Shukran Salih, CEO of Quantum International, counts 20 years in apparel manufacturing and was previously the Executive Director of Cadillac Garments Ltd. Established by MDM Wazeer, a pioneer in the Sri Lankan apparel industry, Cadillac Garments produced clothing for high end retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Nike, GAP, Next, Tommy Hilfiger, Perry Ellis and Echo amongst others.
With a background in Fine Art and Design, Minha Akram’s signature sophistication extends to the Tropic of Linen brand. Also a Director of Event Horizon, creative design is Minha’s forte, be it in crafting showstopping event experiences or timeless clothing styles.
Following the boutique opening, Tropic of Linen is expected to launch a range of children’s wear in the near future. Further information and updates are available at www.facebook.com/TropicOfLinen.
