There is a group of Diyawanna members who left the government ranks during the Aragalaya and now call themselves Independents. In this Independent Group there are two members elected from Rajarata and Kalutara.
These two are said to be still using two super luxury vehicles from the fleet of the country’s main office assigned to them during the last government for security reasons.
The mandarins responsible for these vehicles who had suddenly found that the two Diyawanna members were no longer entitled to these vehicles, had sent letters to them about four months ago asking them to return the vehicles without any further delay.
As there was a delay in returning the vehicles, the officials had made a compliant to Police.
At this stage, the leader of this Independent group had asked a top office holder in the government not to take legal action against the twosome over the vehicle affair, assuring him as a gesture of their gratitude to support the government at every critical moment implying that they would even vote for the annual Budget too when it was presented!
However, the group had not voted for the Budget honouring the group leader’s pledge. So, the vehicle issue had again cropped up!
The mandarins had again written to the twosome using the super luxury vehicles to return them forthwith saying that in the event of the failure to return them, legal action would be taken against them under the Public Property Act! And the group now is said to be highly agitated over this threat, they say.
