The pending no-confidence motion against a top team member is the main talking point both in the public domain and the political circles these days.
By the way, a group of Green party Diyawanna politicos found themselves in a deep powwow in the Diyawanna council lobby the other day.
When this discussion was underway, a purohita at state level hailing from Kurunegala district approached the group.
Addressing a young member who is a Doctor of Medicine, the newcomer asked him whether he was going to vote against the motion.
“I am for the motion. I am going to vote for the motion!” replied the young doctor.
It was a deputy from the Gampaha district already in the group who immediately reacted to the young doctor’s reply. He advised the young member to re-consider his decision.
At this stage, the purohita at state level asked the deputy from Gampaha” “What is your stand with regard to the motion?”
“I am opposed to it! What else to do?” was his ready reply.
“Do you think that you will have no problem about facing the next election after voting against the motion,” the state level purohita asked him.
“Such a problem will not arise in my case…” said the deputy from Gampaha district. He added: “I have a gut feeling that I may not win at the coming election…Therefore, it would be better to enjoy whatever good things available at the moment than to make a sacrifice for the sake of an uncertain future!”
“O! You seem to already know your election result!” remarked the state level purohita from Kurunegala.
