Several Blue party Diyawanna politicos are said to be very unhappy about the step-motherly treatment being meted out to them by some Pohottuwa high-ups. Some of them had expressed their displeasure over this treatment in public.
Meanwhile, some Blue seniors have proposed that it would be in their interest to go it alone at the general polls and team up with Pohottuwa later on new terms. They complain that the Pohottuwa bigwigs have gone back on their promise to contest the polls under the common symbol ‘Chair’ and are now planning to enter fray under their own symbol. However, the Pohottuwa bigwigs maintain that they made no such promise.
The Blue seniors are not happy about the portfolios offered to them either.
Even the party chief is said to be in favour of the idea of contesting separately. They are also sure of winning over 12 seats by going it alone at the polls.
They also believe that if they succeed winning a good number of seats at the polls, the party chief too would be able to bargain for a high office in the new government from a position of strength.
Meanwhile, some Blue stalwarts had suggested that they keep the party door open even to the Elephant. Though a few members said ‘no’ to this suggestion, some leading Blues kept mum, they say.
However, when the discussion was coming to an end, a strongman from Uva had warned that they should take decisions only after a careful study of the ground realities.
