A ginger group within the Telephone party is said to be gathering strength, they say.
The reason for the emergence of this ginger group is said to be the lackadaisical political conduct of the party hierarchy. The rebels are particularly concerned about the party chief’s languid attitude towards the government in power, they say.
There are ten to fifteen members including one from Ratnapura and another from Badulla in the group. The internal row in the party came into focus recently when the group member from Badulla, made a statement in public that created a mild stir in the party.
Anyway, some members have reportedly expressed their displeasure to the party chief himself about the lack of dynamism in the role being played by the party.
Meanwhile, the question as to who the party’s candidate at the next big poll willbe,is being raised by certain sections of the party and the ginger group members have already indicated that their backing for the party chief will depend on the latter’s future performance, they say.
