The popular former test player’s resignation from the position as the bowling coach a few hours ahead of the national team’s departure for the West Indies shocked the fans of the game in the country and placed the game authorities in an unforeseen predicament.
Already an employee of the game’s controlling body, the former test player was due to accompany the national team as its fast bowling coach. When this special assignment was given to him, he had reportedly demanded an extra-payment of US $ 200 a day. This demand had placed the authorities in a very awkward position as the payment required the sanction of the management council. So, they had told the former test player that they would look into the possibility of making an extra-payment of at least US $ 100 a day.
The authorities had later agreed to pay US $ 200 day with the hope of obtaining covering authority for the payment from the council later. However, the former player had said that he had already decided to resign and stuck to his guns, they say.
