Behind the scene moves are afoot to get up a new political alignment to take on the UPFA’s rebel group backing the deposed strongman, informed sources say.

Several like-minded political stalwarts from both minor and major parties had rendezvoused recently to lay the ground work for the proposed alignment. By the way, practically all these stalwarts had been at the forefront of the campaign for the common opposition candidate at the last Presidential poll. The participants in this confab had reached agreement to contest the coming general election as an alliance and most of them had favoured the idea of contesting under the ‘Swan’ symbol.

The Bell party was not represented at this meeting. The Field Marshal’s party and certain Green party old timers are not likely to back the new alliance in the offing, they say.
