Colombo,September 11 (Daily Mirror)- Commenting on Anura Kumara Dissanayake's invitation for a debate, President Ranil Wickremesinghe asked him to first hold a separate discussion within the party to clarify their economic policy.
The President said that when he had previously asked Dissanayake whether his economic policy was focused on exports or imports, he had not received a clear answer.
Before engaging in a debate with Dissanayake, Wickremesinghe suggested that Dissanayake, along with Sunil Handunnetti and Harshana Suriyapperuma, should first hold a separate discussion to clarify their economic policy for the nation.

No Mr. Wickramasinghe, if you have a backbone, come for a debate with AKD. Otherwise, we will have to count you as????

President wants AKD to get their final view. NPP's party has given different views at different times.

Ranil can still debate on that issue directly at the debate... why is he chickening out?

Absolutely. RW wants to study that and come with counterproposals to fool the public. It is good that AKD does not agree. He takes everyone to be a fool.

Ranil you were the part of the downfall of the economy and you boast of your experience in politics and to justify your experience what did you do towards the country and nation for the last 76 years. Any idiot can make a turn around in the country by burdening with taxes to the nation and showing the nation that it was you who made the turn around. You time is counted and the nations knows very well of all your hidden agendas.

I see no "saved economy"... only one that has taken on even more debt than before and leaving it for future generations to pay.. while current generation suffers (all expect the politikka's and RW's favoured, of course) Some save !!!

Are we shooting the honest rogue to elect the dishonest rogue? Wednesday, 11 September 2024 03:50 PM
May be commentators who are blaming Ranil W for increasing taxes should state the top 10 expectation we have from who ever the president that will win. AKD talks about catching thieves (in our court system its a 10 year journey generally to achieve very little). What else do we want from the new President? Taxes ranging from 0 to 24%? A minimum salary of Rs. 52,500 per month (currently 18,000?)

Good to have a debate between AKD and RW just before the election. This will give a clear picture for the Public who is good in managing the economy for the next 5 years. Since this is an Invitation from AKD, RW must accept and face it.

Ranil, this is a Presidential debate that is being suggested. If AKD sorts his side out or not, on whatever policy is his problem. Please Just agree to the debate and put him on the spot with your questions like this at the debate without beating around the bush. You are fooling no one with this kind of elusive statements.

Folks, Time to ignore this expired commodity and choose between Anura or Sajith. So far Sajith has been able to prevent SJBers from joining Ranil. However, he has shamelessly accommodated people who were with the Rajapakses. I wonder how is he going to form a government with these people on his side?

The problem with all these rogues extending their support to SP is that an under the table deal is being worked out for an appointment in exchange for support for the presidential election. So, in the unlikely event that SP wins, the same situation would prevail similar to where MR appointed every known supporter to a plum ministerial position.

Insider Wednesday, 11 September 2024 05:46 PM
Not all who were with the Rajapakses are scum, though Ranil has taken the worst scumbags. All those who joined Sajith had left early and become independent of the govt. and they are not tainted. Even the 6.9 million Sri Lankans who voted for Gota have now joined others. That is natural to change and admit a mistake. Of course no one wanted to join JVP/NPP for their extreme policies though they say they will not take others. Others never asked to join.

No plan Wednesday, 11 September 2024 04:31 PM
AKD/JVP/NPP have no plan. Zero. Zilch. Nada. RW should not waste time debating people who only run their mouth and have no track record of doing anything for the people of this country. Not even a charity or any form of advocacy. They only know to make a lot of noise and disrupt public life.

Ranil, Anura Kumara has asked you to answer 3 basic questions before you engage with him in the debate on Politics and Economics. They are as follows: 1. You told Mahinda Rajapaksa that he is the "Hora, Hora". Did you really mean it. Yes or No. 2. Dinesh Gunawardana your classmate at Royal said that you are the "Hora, Hora". Did he really mean it. Yes or No. 3. You/Government is paying close to a million to Akila Viraj and Sagala Ratnayake since you have appointed them as your advisors. Anura wants you to tell the country "One Advise" that they have given you.

Now Ranil has got cold feet. He is backtracking. Hon. Ranil, it's time to bow out of the race and retire. You have served the country for 47 years but sadly without much positive impact. Not your fault. It's the nature of the nation. We need fresh hope, fresh minds and changes to the failed system.

Innuendos and red herrings in bucketfuls, if ever there was. Ranil has no idea what he is talking about. Anura Disanayake has been talking about the export economy for years and has been explaining how NPP was going to do it with no nonsense. Why is Ranil only talking about this now? What was he doing about it since mid 2022? People know by now that Ranil only good at lifting his trouser waist every 2 minutes while mouthing hot air.

IMO, economic debates are only good for critiques to provide their biased opinions. AKD and RW have debated so much in parliament, so, those who bothered to listen to those debates, should know “who is who”. Fundamentally, the economy and the country should be freed, as a free democracy. That means, Removal of political interference, stopping abuse of power and letting the President, Parliament, Judiciary and Executive function transparently and accountability in accordance with the Constitution. Has RW done any of this? If not, what’s the point of a debate?

Ranil will not come to any debate. He has a lot to answer to the woes of the country. Same with the Rajapakses. Let their be new ideas in Sri Lanka parliament. Chase all the crooks away. Ranil is surrounded by Crooks.
