11 SLPP members oppose fielding own Presidential candidate

Colombo, July 29 (Daily Mirror) - Eleven members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) opposed the party politburo's decision to field its own candidate for the Presidential election.

At its politburo meeting today, the SLPP decided not to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential election. 

It was reported that 79 out of 82 politburo members attended the meeting. 

The 11 MPs against the decision were Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Kanchana Wijesekera, Ramesh Pathirana, Prasanna Ranatunga, Bandula Gunawardena, S.B. Dissanayake, Mohan P. de Silva, Kanaka Herath, Kokila Gunawardena, Pradeep Undugoda and Sahan Pradeep.
