Colombo, June 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Meteorological Department issued a warning for naval and fishing communities on adverse weather conditions affecting various sea areas and regions across the country.

Accordingly, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Chilaw via Kankesanthurai and Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil, will experience very rough conditions with very strong gusty winds reaching speeds of 60-65 kmph.

In addition, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle are expected to be rough at times, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-55 kmph.

Wave heights may rise to about 2.0-2.5 metres in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, the department said.

Meanwhile, fairly heavy showers, around 50mm, are likely in some places within the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Strong winds, reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph, can also be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Moneragala districts, according to the Met Department.
