Colombo, December 02 (Daily Mirror)- The Air Quality Index which was between 100 to 180 during the last few days has reduced to 100 and 110 by yesterday, the Central Environment Authority (CEA) said.

CEA Director (Environment Studies) and spokesman Ajith Gunawardhane said the CEA is continuously monitoring the air quality index in Sri Lanka and added that the air quality index increased between 100 and 180 during the last few days and now it has dropped between 100 and 110.

He said if the air quality index is below 50, then it is a healthy situation which Sri Lanka usually records and that if the index is over 100, it is somewhat harmful.

The Director said the CEA, the Peradeniya University and the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) are jointly monitoring the air quality and will announce the air quality indices in the future and do follow ups.
