Sri Lanka’s aviation traffic will increase further in the coming weeks with four new airlines gearing up to launch direct flights to the country from December.
On December 3, Russia’s AZUR Airlines and Air Astana from Kazakhstan will commence flights to Sri Lanka twice a week, whereas Poland’s LOT Polish will commence flights from December 8, and NEOS Airlines from Italy will kick off flights to Colombo from December 15.
Starting November, Air France resumed operations to Sri Lanka after a 30-year hiatus. The Ministry of Tourism shared that out of the 37 airlines that operated flights to Sri Lanka prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 17 have resumed passenger flights.
With regard to cargo flights, eight airlines have resumed operations.
The ministry said active negotiations are underway with all the airlines that flew to the island nation before the pandemic, to encourage them resume operations.
