Armed Forces instructed to implement maximum security measures

Colombo, July 26 (Daily Mirror) -  State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon instructed security chiefs today to implement all necessary measures to ensure the safety of presidential candidates and citizens following the announcement of the Presidential Election.

During a meeting of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Defence, the minister emphasised the need for maximum security measures throughout the election period.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, and other senior officers from the armed forces, along with heads of the Ministry of Defence and its affiliated agencies.

The minister emphasised that these measures are crucial for protecting the constitution and the fundamental rights of citizens.

He said that during the complex challenges faced over the past two years, serious decisions were made by the ministry, which played a key role in stabilising the country through the reinforcement of national security and the rule of law.

Tennakoon also expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed to stabilising the country by upholding national security and the rule of law during this period.
